Myoporum laetum or commonly known as Ngaio tree is a fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree. In spring it bears white blossoms with purple spots folowed by deep red/purple berries. The leaves contain small oil glands which appear as small yellow or white speckles, making the leaf quite distinguishable from those of other shrubs. Ngaio grows very well in coastal areas and is very hardy. Can be used to form quick shelter.
