Description
Asclepias fructicosa or commonly known as Swan plant is a main food source for the monarch butterfly caterpillars. The swan plant, if not eaten by the caterpillars, forms a small bush with narrow green leaves and dainty white jasmine like flower heads in summer. In autumn big spiky seed pots appear which are very decorative as well. Asclepias fructicosa is a beautiful shrub in the mixed cottage style border to attract monarch butterflies in your garden. Cut it back in autumn to keep a compact bush.
